first full day in Africa began with a wonderful breakfast at
Moivaro Plantation Lodge,
a producing coffee plantation. The strong flavorful coffee that was served
at each meal was grown on the plantation.
Meals were served in a small dining room and a large open veranda in the main building. All staff are native Tanzanians and were exceptionally pleasant and accommodating.
|Our room was very nice ― a cabin with a tile bath and a small fireplace (not that we needed it!) and a pleasant view of the surrounding coffee plantation and of nearby Mount Meru. This was the first place that we encountered mosquito netting over the beds; we were to see it quite often in the days ahead. And of course there was the occasional gecko lizard running up and down the walls. They seem to particularly like bathrooms.|
|After breakfast, we were off for a full day of exploring the park. It is considered to be good luck if you see a giraffe in the road. One of the first things we saw inside the park was a giraffe in the road! Truly this was a sign of good things to come, as we were privileged to see a great variety of wildlife on our journey.|
